According to someone’s calculation, 125 people died in World War II for every word in Adolf Hitler’s book Mein Kampf. It’s a sobering reminder of Proverbs 18:19 which says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.”

The two pounds of flesh attached to the bottom of your mouth is either a positive, life-giving source or a weapon of mass destruction.  With it you can build people up or tear people down. No wonder Jesus said, “On the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak” (Matthew 12:37).

Whoever said “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me” was either terribly naive or a liar, liar pants on fire.
