In the Revelation of Jesus Christ, the apostle John writes, “And I saw a beast rising out of the sea, with ten horns and seven heads, with ten diadems on its horns and blasphemous names on its heads” (Revelation 13:1).

It is no coincidence that one of the names given to the Antichrist is “the beast.” That’s because when humans try to rule themselves apart from God we act like beasts.

The prefix “anti” means opposed to and instead of. The future beast that John sees rising out of the sea is opposed to Christ in every way imaginable; he also masquerades as the Messiah in an attempt to deceive the world.
