Jesus had many good things to say about the church at Ephesus before He identified the one thing they lacked (Revelation 2:1-7). They worked hard for the gospel, patiently endured opposition, and remained steadfast in their commitment to biblical orthodoxy.

However, the Ephesians lost their first love. The church was theologically sound but lacked a real love for God and people. They remind me of a hit song by The Righteous Brothers, “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling.”

In a difficult letter, warning the church in Ephesus, Jesus said, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.”
