SpongeBob SquarePants is a popular animated character who lives in the sea with his friends. One of his friends named Patrick, a pink starfish, was awarded a gold cup trophy “for doing absolutely nothing longer than anybody else,” which was number one on a list of Patrick’s top five lazy moments.

Do you know somebody like lazy Patrick, the starfish? Maybe he is you. Are you a lazy person? We all have times when we’d like to check into the Lazy Day Resort. But lacking diligence is a real problem and a character issue.

Proverbs warns, “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man” (24:30-34).
