Most parents do not name their daughters “Jezebel,” and for good reasons. In the Old Testament, Queen Jezebel was a wicked woman who persecuted the Lord’s prophets. Another Jezebel we read about in the New Testament wasn’t much better.

The Jezebel in the church at Thyatira called herself a prophetess. But Jesus labeled her teachings “the deep things of Satan” (Revelation 2:18-29). She corrupted the church by teaching that believers in Jesus could participate in pagan lifestyles, including sexual immorality.

Fortunately, not everyone in the church followed Jezebel’s corrupt teaching. Jesus encouraged those who did not to “hold fast what you have until I come.” Are you ready for Jesus’s soon return? Are you holding fast to the faith that was once delivered to the saints?
