Taking time to lie down in God’s green pasture is a discipline that we, the sheep of God’s pasture, must practice.

The devil will do everything he can to distract us from prioritizing those quiet times with our good shepherd. He will fill our hearts and minds with worry, stress, and anxiety. He will convince us that we are too busy to read our Bible and pray.

For that reason, sometimes our good shepherd must make us lie down in green pastures. An illness, disappointment, or season of unemployment might be God’s way of gently pressuring us to do what He knows is best for us: Lying down and taking the time to nourish our soul by chewing on God’s word while experiencing His reassuring presence.
