Have Mercy On Me, O God
Springtime—warm temperatures, fresh rain, blooming flowers, and the time of year when kings go out to battle. Most kings, that is. One stayed home, rose from his couch and went for a walk on his rooftop terrace. That’s when he let his eyes linger on a bathing beauty (2 Samuel 11).
No Romeo and Juliette love here; it was something darker—unbridled lust and the power to act upon it. David’s adulterous affair with Bathsheba is simply the most notorious in history. And the king’s murderous cover up was the lowest of lows.
It took David an entire year before these words poured from his heart. “Have mercy on me, O God” (Psalm 51:1). Do you need God’s mercy today?
