Psalm 23 pictures the biblical life of faith, including the walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Sometimes we refer to our journey with Jesus as “the Christian walk” appropriately.

Thus, David writes, “even though I walk” not “even though I sit” or “even though I camp.” We are not meant to stay in the valley, but we must walk through it to get to the high places, sometimes doing our best to put one weary foot in front of another.

The Bible never pictures our walk of faith as a Sunday afternoon stroll in the park. Often, to get to the high places with God, we must walk through dark valleys, knowing that our good shepherd is with us every step of the way.
