Chastising the Chatterbox
Some people talk too much and too quickly. Are you a chatterbox or a motor mouth? Are you always the one who has to have the last word?
Proverbs 10:19 warns, “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.” In other words, the more we let fly from our lips, the greater chance we have of sinning with our tongue, and the greater probability that our faith is not real.
In the New Testament, James says pointedly, “If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless” (1:26). This is why James also says, “Be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger (1:19).
